10 Creative Things to Do with Camping Coloring Pages

Once you’ve printed your favorite wilderness designs, the fun is just beginning! Here are some incredibly engaging techniques and activities to bring your camping art to the next level.

Mastering the Glowing Campfire Technique

To make the campfire look like it is truly glowing against the dark night sky, you’ll need to practice advanced color blending. This technique works best with soft colored pencils or blendable markers.

  • The Inner Flame: Start by coloring the very center of the fire with a bright, solid yellow. Leave a tiny white spot right in the middle for the hottest part of the fire!
  • The Orange Center: Gently blend a warm orange into the middle of the flames, transitioning smoothly from the yellow center.
  • The Red Tips: Carefully blend a deep red into the very top edges of the flames to give it realistic heat and depth.
  • The Night Sky: The sky directly above the fire should be slightly lighter (like a medium blue or purple), getting darker and darker as it reaches the top of the page!

Build a 3D Wilderness Shadowbox Diorama

Why just color when you can build? Turn these coloring pages into an interactive, 3D wilderness diorama using an old shoebox!

  • Step 1: Find an empty shoebox and remove the lid. Paint the inside of the box dark blue or black to represent the night sky.
  • Step 2: Print out your favorite tents, trees, and animal coloring pages onto thick cardstock paper, and color them in completely.
  • Step 3: Use safety scissors to carefully cut out the main objects (like the tent, the campfire, and the pine trees).
  • Step 4: Fold a tiny flap at the bottom of each cut-out object so that it can stand up on its own.
  • Step 5: Glue the flaps to the bottom of the shoebox, placing the trees in the back, the tent in the middle, and the campfire right in the front!
