Craft Ideas & Creative Activities

Coloring these awesome Hoppers pages is a fantastic way to celebrate the movie and practice drawing diverse animal textures like fluffy beaver fur, scaly lizard skin, and shiny fish scales. Because the animal kingdom in Hoppers is so vibrant and colorful, you can use these coloring sheets as an excellent creative opportunity to practice advanced shading techniques. Here are some awesome coloring tips and fun physical craft projects to bring Mabel’s adventure into your living room!

Advanced Coloring Techniques

  • 🦫 Fluffy Beaver Fur: King George and Mabel have incredibly thick, fluffy fur! To make their fur look realistic, avoid coloring it in one solid block of brown. Start with a light tan base layer. Then, use a sharp, dark brown pencil to draw hundreds of tiny, quick, flicking strokes following the direction of the fur to make it look incredibly soft and realistic!
  • 🦎 Scaly Lizard Skin: Tom Lizard is hilarious, but his skin texture can be tricky to draw! To recreate his bumpy, scaly skin, use a bright green marker for the base color. Then, take a darker green colored pencil and draw tiny, overlapping “U” shapes across his back and tail. Finally, add a tiny dot of yellow inside a few of the scales to act as a shiny light reflection!
  • 🤖 Metallic Robot Parts: Remember, Mabel is actually inside a robot! To make the robotic beaver joints look metallic, color them a solid, cool grey. Then, draw a sharp, stark white line along the edge of the metal to represent a harsh, shiny light reflection, and shade the opposite side very dark black.

Fun Craft Ideas & Activities

  • 🪵 Popsicle Stick Beaver Dams: You can’t have beavers without a dam! Go outside and collect a handful of small twigs and branches. Bring them inside and use a hot glue gun (with an adult’s help!) or strong craft glue to stack the twigs together over a cardboard base. You can place your colored Mabel and King George cutouts right on top of your brand new miniature dam!
  • 👑 Animal Kingdom Crowns: Become royalty just like the Fish Queen and Bird King! Cut a long strip of yellow construction paper and wrap it around your head to size it. Then, decorate it with colorful markers, plastic jewels, and glitter glue to create your very own animal kingdom crown!
  • 🎭 Robotic Beaver Masks: Print out an extra coloring page of Mabel’s robotic beaver face. Color it in beautifully, then carefully cut out the face and cut two holes for the eyes. Punch a hole on each side of the mask and tie a piece of elastic string through them so you can wear your mask and pretend to infiltrate the animal kingdom yourself!
