10 Creative Things to Do with Kitten Coloring Pages

Once you’ve printed your favorite furry designs, the fun is just beginning! Here are some incredibly engaging techniques and activities to bring your feline art to the next level.

Mastering the Fluffy Fur Technique

To make a simple line art drawing look like it has thick, realistic, and soft fur, you’ll need to practice advanced pencil strokes. This technique works best with soft, well-sharpened colored pencils.

  • The Base Layer: Start by lightly coloring the entire kitten with a soft, even base color (like a pale yellow or light gray). This fills in the white paper underneath the fur.
  • The Fur Strokes: Take a slightly darker pencil and begin drawing hundreds of tiny, quick lines in the direction that the fur naturally grows (usually pointing downwards and away from the nose).
  • The Shadow Depth: Use an even darker pencil to draw dense clusters of fur strokes under the kitten’s chin, behind its ears, and where its legs meet its body.
  • The Whiskers: Finally, take a white gel pen or a black fine-tip marker and draw long, sweeping arcs extending outward from the kitten’s nose to create ultra-realistic whiskers!

Build a Cardboard Cat Castle

Why just color when you can build? Turn these coloring pages into a fun, 3D interactive cat castle using old shipping boxes!

  • Step 1: Print out several of your favorite kitten coloring pages, color them in completely, and carefully cut them out using safety scissors.
  • Step 2: Find two or three empty cardboard shipping boxes of different sizes and tape them together to form a multi-story castle.
  • Step 3: Have an adult help you use a craft knife to cut small square windows and arched doorways into the sides of the boxes.
  • Step 4: Paint the outside of your cardboard castle with bright, fun acrylic paints!
  • Step 5: Fold a tiny paper flap at the bottom of each of your cut-out kittens so they can stand up, and arrange them looking out the windows and standing guard on the roof of your new castle!
