10 Creative Things to Do with Heart Coloring Pages

Once you’ve printed your favorite romantic designs, the fun is just beginning! Here are some incredibly engaging techniques and activities to bring your heart art to the next level.

Mastering the 3D Shadow Technique

To make a simple 2D heart look like a puffy, three-dimensional balloon, you’ll need to practice advanced color blending. This technique works best with soft colored pencils or blendable markers.

  • The Highlight: Before you start coloring, draw a tiny white circle near the top-right curve of the heart. Leave this completely uncolored! This acts as a realistic reflection of light.
  • The Base Color: Fill in the rest of the heart with a bright, solid red or pink, carefully blending around your white highlight.
  • The Crescent Shadow: Gently blend a dark crimson or deep purple into the bottom-left edge of the heart in the shape of a crescent moon.
  • The Drop Shadow: To make the heart pop off the page, take a light gray pencil and draw a very faint, fuzzy shadow just outside the bottom-left edge of the heart line art!

Build a Hanging Heart Mobile

Why just color when you can build? Turn these coloring pages into a beautiful, floating heart mobile to hang from your ceiling!

  • Step 1: Print out several small or medium heart coloring pages onto thick cardstock paper, and color them in completely on both sides.
  • Step 2: Use safety scissors to carefully cut out the individual hearts.
  • Step 3: Take a standard wire coat hanger and wrap it completely in colorful yarn or ribbon.
  • Step 4: Poke a tiny hole in the top of each cut-out heart using a thumbtack, and tie a long piece of clear fishing line or sewing thread through the hole.
  • Step 5: Tie the other ends of the strings to the bottom of the wire hanger at different lengths, so the hearts beautifully float and spin in the air!
