Elemental Bending Coloring Techniques for The Legend of Korra

Master the four elements on paper by using these dynamic coloring techniques to make the bending effects jump off the page!

  • Waterbending: To make water look fluid and realistic, start with a light, icy blue base. Then, use a deep navy blue to add curved shadows along the bottom of the water whips, and leave the very top edges completely white to look like splashing foam.
  • Firebending: Fire should always be brightest at the center. Color the core of the flames bright yellow, surround it with a layer of orange, and lightly trace the very outer tips with a vibrant red.
  • Earthbending: Use rough, jagged strokes with a dark brown pencil to make the earth look rocky and heavy. Add small, flying pebble debris around the main rocks to show intense motion!
  • Airbending: Air is invisible, so use very light, sweeping circular strokes with a pale gray or silver pencil to represent the rushing wind currents.
