Craft Ideas & Creative Activities
Coloring these awesome Shrek pages is a fantastic way to celebrate the movies and practice drawing diverse, hilarious textures like swampy mud, shiny dragon scales, and bright green ogre skin. Because the world of Shrek perfectly blends dirty swamps with magical fairytale kingdoms, you can use these coloring sheets as an excellent creative opportunity to practice advanced shading techniques. Here are some awesome coloring tips and fun physical craft projects to bring the swamp into your living room!
Advanced Coloring Techniques
- 🟢 Shading Ogre Skin: Shrek and Fiona have very iconic, bright green skin! However, if you color them with just one flat green marker, they will look 2D. Start with a bright lime green base layer. Then, use a darker forest green colored pencil to heavily shade the edges of their faces, under their chins, and around their iconic trumpet-shaped ears to make them look completely 3D and realistic!
- 🐉 Shiny Dragon Scales: Dragon is terrifying but beautiful! To make her ruby-red scales look shiny and magical, use a dark red marker for her body. While the ink is still wet, leave a thin, curved strip of pure white paper completely blank along the top of her snout and the curve of her back. This creates the illusion of bright sunlight reflecting off her smooth scales!
- 泥 Texturing Swamp Mud: Shrek loves a good mud bath! Mud is thick, lumpy, and wet. To recreate this texture, use three different shades of brown. Start with a light brown base. Then, use a dark brown pencil to draw jagged, overlapping lumps. Finally, use a white gel pen to draw tiny, wet, shiny reflections on the top of the mud bubbles!
Fun Craft Ideas & Activities
- 🎭 Paper Bag Shrek Puppets: You can’t live in the swamp without a puppet! Grab a standard brown paper lunch bag. Keep the bag folded flat. Paint the large bottom square flap bright green, and paint the rest of the bag brown for Shrek’s clothes. Cut out two small green cardboard trumpets and glue them to the sides of the head for his ears, and put on a hilarious puppet show!
- 🍭 Gumdrop Button Gingerbread Men: Just like Gingy! Print out an extra coloring page of the Gingerbread Man and glue it to a piece of stiff cardboard. Carefully cut him out. Instead of coloring his buttons, use real glue to attach three brightly colored candy gumdrops or colorful buttons right onto his chest for a 3D masterpiece!
- 🏰 Cardboard Far Far Away Castle: Don’t throw away your empty cardboard boxes! Stack a few boxes together and paint them bright white with blue roofs to build your very own castle from Far Far Away. You can cut out your beautifully colored Shrek, Fiona, and Puss in Boots pages and place them around your new kingdom!
